VBCW Big Game at Partizan May 27th

I am organising a game of VBCW for Partizan in May27th, which I hope will build upon last news game.

The plot, as much as there is a need for one is as follows.

A special VIP (Read this as the freebie figure for this Partizan and its a good one) is touring the county on a bit of a public awareness exercise for someone who shall remain nameless for the time being and this special VIP is found out (cue dramatic music).

Now its of the various local and not so local factions bring forth there best, or a least the ones they have closest at the time, to bring this VIP to justice, be friend, seek help.

However, the Duke of Rutland who land everyone is travelling across and through is not happy and will defend his land from all comers, just like last time until ..............

More of this as it develops, together with a map of the area and possible forces.

Does anyone have any idea on which rules to use, as I am keeping this petty generic at the moment.

The Third Illustration for the Albertines

Yes I have been a busy boy and have finished the third illustration for the Albertine book. This time it is a Duke of York's Own Private in the latest Battledress with Pattern '37 webbing. I think that I have managed to get this rather close to what was worn by the BEF in 1939-40 and I am very pleased with the results.

Its the Men They Couldn't Hang

I have finished off my British Union of Fascists Auxiliaries and I am rather happy with the whole result now that they are fully based and painted. Its strange how the base pulls the miniature together and these miniatures from Musketeer Miniatures and sculpted by Paul Hicks were a wonder to paint up. I painted these up in the uniform of the BUF Auxiliary as I illustrated in Solways' new book on the Somerset Freedom Fighters (more to follow about that in the new couple of days).

The facings colours and piping identify the division (actually the area with the unit is from) with blue being for the Severn Valley and the Midlands. I am sad enough to create the divisional areas and work out there facings. Also these are based on real BUF pipings or facings as there didn't use them. This being as follows:

Colour                               Area

Red                   Manchester and North West Division

Purple               London and the South East Division

Blue                  Severn and the Midlands Division

White                Newcastle and the North East Division

Yellow              East Anglican Division

Green               West Country Division

Brown               The South Division

Dark Green       Wales

Dark Blue         Scotland

Now of course this is all top secret stuff and subject to change at any time.

The Second Albertine is Finished

Yes I have even surprised and maybe surpassed myself by finishing the Yorkist Militiaman. I am rather pleased with the way he has turned out, especially the cap. In civvies with only an armband to identify him.

Militiaman, Yorkist Front, 1938

Yorkists Militia

Here is the start of the next painting and this fellah is as the title suggests is a militiaman. In fact he is the one who has just had his armband removed, see previously illustration. I quite like the feel of this fellah and hopefully, after the rugby to have him finished today, but thats a big ask. Anyway here he is.

Yorkists Militia, 1938

The First of the Albertines

I am very happy to say and introduce the first of the Albertine force, this fellah being a Major in Duke of York's Own Regiment. He is wearing the latest in army fashion, actually he has the older sam brown belt equipment. He has the purple armband of the Albertines and has taken a socialist armband one of the York Militiamen. So he here is and next will be that York Militiaman.

The Chap is Nearly There

Yes the Major is nearly finished and I only have a handful of little bits and bobs to do and he is finished. Next will be a private from the Duke of York's Own and there a militiaman. Here the chap is.

Better Start than I Thought

Well after posting the first picture and then watching Grimm, a new series from the writer of Buffy, I did a bit more to the picture. Basically I painted the Jacket and Cap and now he seems to be taking shape. I am rather liking this chap as I have managed to round his face out since the undersketch which I am pleased with.

Its a Start

I have started on the illustrations for Solway on the Albertine faction, a new faction who are the supporters of Prince Albert. Now I have a image of them sporting a Prince Albert, not good. This chap is a Major in the Duke of York's Own Regiment wearing the uniform of the regiment and the British army of the time. Hopefully I should have some more completed shortly. So here is the latest stage.

Nearly but Still Far Away

I have now finished the miniatures now of my Auxiliaries just the bases to go. I have to admit I have enjoyed painting them as BUF Auxiliaries, I wonder if I would of enjoyed painting them as proper IWI Auxiliaries? Its quite amazing that I have got this far tonight between watching Whitechapel and other things. These chaps have a blue faces and trim of the Midlands Brigade, Severn and Mids Division, British Union of Fascists. Yes I have been sad enough to map out all the regions and their colours for the BUF and also the rank insignia too. Here are the latest photos.

BUF Auxiliaries on there Way

Yes I have started my Black and Tans or rather BUF Auxiliaries. I decided that they should have a similar uniform to the Auxiliary Police Units as seen in Ireland and the Black and Tans. There are a number of reasons why I decided to goes for these, firstly I rather like the Tams, secondly I think that in the VBCW universe the image of the Black and Tan would still be etched in the minds of many and the cold image would be exploited by the British Union of Fascists. So here the start.

Warmachine Stuff

Hi there folks, today i am departing from my normal VBCW and illustrations to show off some of my Warmachine stuff instead. Now I used to be heavily into this before getting married and the the second edition came out and feeling rather pished with but the "new" books again I drew a line under it and said no more. Also I was crap at the game too, lol. I have a friend who has got into these figures and I decided to have a look at them again and was surprised by how nice these are, so I thought I would show them off. I have done a little retouching to them but nothing really. These are, I think, Khador forces and the fella is named The Butcher of Khardov for something he done in his past, or he was the only butcher in Khardov. I love the fact his weapon, the axe, is named Lola but no-one will ask why. I think it is because is looks like a woman and walks like a man, lol.

Humberstone Militia Rioters

Well actually it is the Militia bomber that I had forgotten to finish that I managed to do last night. Again I am very happy with the results.

Iron Sky

I am shocked to see this film Iron Sky coming out within the next few weeks. I had never heard of it until someone posted about this film in Gentlemen Wargames parlour and I have fallen in love with it.

I mean just look at the poster alone, does it make you want to see it?

The Story of Iron Sky

In the last moments of World War II, a secret Nazi space program evaded destruction by fleeing to the Dark Side of the Moon. During 70 years of utter secrecy, the Nazis construct a gigantic space fortress with a massive armada of flying saucers.

When American astronaut James Washington (Christopher Kirby) puts down his Lunar Lander a bit too close to the secret Nazi base, the Moon Führer (Udo Kier) decides the glorious moment of retaking the Earth has arrived sooner than expected. Washington claims the mission is just a publicity stunt for the President of the United States (Stephanie Paul), but what else could the man be but a scout for the imminent attack by Earth forces? The Fourth Reich must act!

Two Nazi officers, ruthless Klaus Adler (Götz Otto) and idealistic Renate Richter (Julia Dietze), travel to Earth to prepare the invasion. In the end when the Moon Nazi UFO armada darkens the skies, ready to strike at the unprepared Earth, every man, woman and nation alike, must re-evaluate their priorities.

About the Film

Iron Sky is a dark science fiction comedy directed by Timo Vuorensola and will feature musical score composed by Laibach. The film is produced by Blind Spot Pictures and Energia Productions in Finland, and co-produced by 27 Films in Germany and New Holland Pictures in Australia. Principal photography took place in Germany in November-December 2010 and in Australia in January-February 2011.

Iron Sky premieres at the Berlin International Film Festival in February and opens in theaters in April 2012 with Finland opening on 4th of April and Germany on the 5th of April. Other countries will follow soon after.

The primary language of the film is English.

I cant wait for this film to come out it looks a blast.

The Third Sketch

Hi there friends, here is the third sketch for the first plate of the Albertine book. This time its a militiaman who is not wearing a uniform and really only has his armband to identify him as a Yorkist. He was wearing a armband of the socialist militia that he belongs to but this has been removed but the DOYOR Officer and he is rather annoyed over the sorry states of affairs.

Here is an idea what the whole plate will look like. The militiaman is not giving the officer the bird but rather is holding a fag up. As normal this plate might change as I move people about.

Duke of York's Own Regiment Officer

Here is the second sketch for the Albertine book this time its an officer from the DOYORs. He is carrying an armband in his hands and the next sketch will hopefully example all. Here the chap is.

New Drawing New Book

You will be glad to know that I am back of a new book, again for Simon at Solway and this time its the new faction the Albertines. This fella is a private from the Duke of York's Own Regiment and you should be seeing more like this in the future. I like the pose and the feel of this one and I think I have the early war British infantry look.

The Boys from County Hell

On the first day of March it was raining, raining worst than anything I had ever seen.............. Here is the completed full flying column of boys from the old brigade. Yes I have finished and based all twenty odd of Musketeers Miniatures finest sculpted IRA men in all there glory. Okay that might be going a tad far there and really what I mean here of some of the boys posing on the glenside.  I am rather happy with the overall look of the fellas and now got to see where they are going to fit into the Humberstone Militia Brigade. Next thing I am painting, just to balance the side a little is the Black and Tan Auxiliaries.

The Boys is Finished

Yes the Anti-tank element of the Humberstone Militia has been finished bases and ready for action. The Boys anti-tank rifle is just the ticket and is the very latest in anti-tank hardware, or that's what the salesman said. I have to say I have a rather soft spot for this weapon as it looks like a hang over from the Great War and oddly not fit for propose, none none of which is true.

The Rifle, Anti-Tank, .55in, Boys commonly known as the "Boys Anti-tank Rifle" (or incorrectly "Boyes"), was a British anti-tank rifle in use during World War II.

There were three main versions of the Boys, an early model (Mark I) which had a circular muzzle brake and T shaped monopod, built primarily at BSA in England, a later model (Mk I*) built primarily at Jonathan Inglis in Toronto Canada, that had a square muzzle brake and a V shaped bipod, and a third model made for airborne forces with a 30-inch (762 mm) barrel and no muzzle brake. There were also different cartridges, with a later version offering better penetration.

Although adequate against light tanks in the early part of the war, the Boys was ineffective against heavier armour.

More of Me Boys

Yes I have finished another twelve IRA boys from Musketeer Miniatures last night making a total of twenty three miniatures painted in forty eight hours which for me is fast. So here are the results of the last lot of twelve figures and I am pity happy with them. Just got to base them all now.

New Set of Rules from a Decent Chap

I very rarely do this and basically nick from another blog, in fact this is the first time, but as someone I know has written a set of wargames rules for the interwar period which includes my own VBCW. Here is the posting that he has done for you from his own blog.

A World Aflame

Fame at last!!!! The original concept for these came about when I agreed to write a quick set for the first Gentlemans Wargames Parlour BCW game a couple of years ago. The rules were greeted with some enthusiasm and then Osprey asked me if they could publish them. Having been asked I decided on a complete re write and the soon to be published rules are the result. Many of the original concepts remain although a huge amount has been changed. Hopefully they will be well received although I think thay are worth buying simply for the cover art work which is fantastic as far as I am concerned.

Humberstone Militia Has Its First Review

Well I am not totally sure it anyone else is as sad of me but I decided to take stock the other day to see where my VBCW forces are at and was quite surprised with the findings. The main propose for this is for Albanich 2012 when I how to be getting in a couple of games if Brigadier '38 in and seeing if my forces are good enough. That is one of the results for the large expansion program, okay painting project recently, feeling in some of the gaps. Anyway like all good wargamers, I have actually taken photos of them, for reference honestly, and here is the results.

Here is the full Humberstone Brigade with support from the Tigers Regt and POA Leicestershire Yeomanry.

Here is the Command HQ

Brigade Flag and Moral support section

POA Leicestershire Yeomanry with Campden Lyods support.

Introducing My Cousins From South Armagh

My as of this morning my count of painted figures stood at one, well now the count stands at eleven, which for me is a huge amount in one day. I still have the bases to complete, plant and grow and also a further twelve fellas waiting in the wings requiring paint being added to them. But all in all I have to say I have had a productive day.

Firstly chaps are the Musketeer Miniatures IRA men mainly the command/character pack and the pistol armed pack. The next chaps are the rifle and shotgun men.

On top of them I have also finished these VBCW Militia Bombers also from Musketeer, as with all these figures all are sculpted by Paul Hicks and they are a dream to paint. I just the little details on them.

Lastly but by no means least is the Boys and crew, again from, yes you have guest it, Musketeer's VBCW range. This is a lovely bit of kit and I have to admit to a soft stop for the Boy A/T Rifle.

Now all I have to do is plant the bases, lol.

IRAish men

Well I have decided to paint them up in little blocks, no real reason why just started that way. As it stands I have finished the grand total on one, base to do and I have another ten that should be finished by tomorrow. This is the quickest I have ever painted a unit in, okay not the quickest, but for me this is super fast, I mean one painted figure in one day, that's a record for me, lol. The truth is these IRAmen from Musketeer Miniatures really paint themselves, which is handy for me.
