Dad's Army by Paul Hicks, an Update and WIP

Well as you could see from my "On the Paint Table" last weekend that I have some Dad's Army figures that I am painting at the moment. Well this is a update about them. Now I have to say that they are being painted for a VBCW game that is taken place at Partizan, Newark on 1st June, yes my annual big game is coming, lol, but also they are a part of a lead mountain painting exercise that some of the chaps on VBCF are doing.

As you can I have finished the Reverend Farthing and Verger Yatesman but also I have finished Mainwaring as a Bank Manager, Sergeant Wilson in civvies and but Hodges, as ARP Warden and as Green Grocer. They as wonderful sculpts, thanks Mr P Hicks, and they rather paint themselves. They actually do look like the characters involved in the actually flesh and have bags of character and I bloody like them, more so than the foundry ones which are a bit generic and cartoony.

I am also working of Captain Mainwaring and Sergeant Wilson too in Home Guard uniform. I have tried to stay as faithful to the TV series as I can with these and also all the characters. With these it is the details to finish and the bases and that's it, just another ten to go.

Well I hope you enjoy them and hopefully I should have an update towards the end of the week, so have a good day and thanks for reading.

On the Painting Table, No. 25

Yes its the 25th week of on the paint table and it is still from strenght to strenght, well done there Sofia, check out her blog Here. Anyway a little has happened since last week but dont be fooled into thinking that I have actually finished some stuff, no I have just moved them to the back again. Now thats the story of a painting magpie.

As you can see I have just a few bits on the table and I want, need to have these finished by the end of May, to be ready for Partizan on 1st June in Newark, where once again I will be putting on a demo game of VBCW with some of the chaps from the Very British Civil Forum. As you can see I have two of Warbase's wonderful terrace house and their Mansard House, which I think looks a bit like Doctor Mops house from Chigley. Also there is a coule of carts that they do plus Warlord's  Dad's Army box set and a Sloppy Jalopy interwar car.

As you can you the Dads Army figures are coming along rather nicely. I am painting up Captain Mainwaring, Sergeant Wilson and ARP Warden Hoges. Now thse can both in the uniforms that they worn as well as Civie dress too and I have been enjoying painting these chaps up. I have finished the civies figures bar the bases and have started on the uniformed versions now. Once I have finished these I still have another ten to do before I finish the set off.

Lastly on the table is a Crossley 19.6HP Trourer from Sloppy Jalopy that I managed to assemble and basecoat before the rain hit. This is a another rather nice kit for the chaps at Sloppy Jalopy, not the earliest of kits to assemble but it does come with some instructions, another manufactures could take note here, as if any wargaming companies read my blog, lol, but once built is is a lovely kit that is true to scale with most of my VBCW figures. I am looking to use it for the Duke of Rutland but will have to think about the colour of it first.

Anyway enjoy the rest of the weekend and have a lovely week head.

On the Paint Table No.24

Happy Easter to one and all and I hope that you are having an enjoyable break. Well no paint table for me last week as I was at Salute and more than a little tidy when I got back but I do have one for this week. Actually I have not bring that lazy though as I have been painting one of Warbases lovely Very British Civil War terraces that I got from Salute but I have forgotten to take a picture of it as it was to big to fit on the paint table really.

As you can see the table has changed a little but the Anglo Danes are still there, sorry Loki Mrs PK had me painting whores, victims and Mr J Ripper instead. Beside that I have also a lovely small Vickers MKViB, some carts from Warbase and I am starting on more of the Dad's Army pack.

Actually I have painted a bit of the Anglo Danes mainly the tunic and trim and I am waiting for the weather to change so i can basecoat the Dads Army figures. These are the second a lot I have decided to paint after the Vicar and the Verger and these include Hodges, Capt Manwearing and Segt Wilson.

But these are what I have been painting for Mrs PK, the whores, victims and Mr J Ripper. I have to say I am rather enjoying painting them as they are rather fun.

And here are the Warbases carts that I picked up. I have to say they are rather nice and good value for money too. They should add some interest to any battlefield.

Have a great week chaps and chapesses and have a wonderful Easter.

Some Salute 2014 Pictures and My View on the Show

Yes I know it has taken me a few days to get these posted and I really cannot say the wait was worth it but here they are. But firstly I have to say a few things about the show. Now this is the first time I have been to Salute at the Excel centre and God it is huge. It took me and Mrs PK really the whole day to walk around looking at stuff, which in its own right is a good thing.

It is good to see so many traders and games there but it is mainly the mainstream ones, hardly any little companies there, I better it is cost. Saying that it was good to see Warbases and Reivers there and it looked like trade was good on both stores. The one thing I did notice was a lack on Very British Civil War on sale, only two places had the books that I saw, Gripping Beast and Reiver, but it was go to see that the boys at Gripping Beast have the full Musketeer Range was them.

But there was a couple of things that I was disappointed by the show, firstly the lighting, it was bad, leaving me to thing that my eye sight had got worst and everything was a bit foggy and the second thing was actually one of the members from South London Warlord's at the clubs LotR display who was getting so upset with people wanting to take photos and asking questions and just wanted to play the game. Well to him from one who puts on display games at large shows, the first thing is the public, you are playing in a public area and actually the point of display games is to well to display the hobby. If you want to play the actual game may I suggest that I show is not the place to play it. Yes this a minor thing but actually it made me a bit annoyed with the whole show and the chap had the wrong attitude in my opinion.

It was great to meet up with so many blogger especially Tamsin from Wargaming Girl, Clint from Anything But a One, thanks for the fudge as both Mrs PK and myself enjoyed that greatly, Michael from 28mm Victorian Warfare and his good friend Provost Marshal, and also to Loki, Fran, Ray, Postie and all the other bloggers that I failed to talk to. Also it was good to meet up with some many VBCBers and it was good to see people actually buying the dice.

So to sum up the show was very good, I think I still prefer Partizan as it has more atmosphere but it was good. Now enough of me rabbiting and on too the pictures.
