Hammerhead Game

Well what a day it was, the weather is horrid but still people came out to enjoy the day. Dave Rose, Angelo, Mort, Monsewer Crapaud and myself put on the first Very British Civil War game of the year at a show and a jolly interesting game it was. It was a very different VBCW game than the usual VBCW affair, taking time off from the various factions fighting each other and adding a little pulp and supernatural to it to make an interesting, if bizarre, game.

Now this was the first time that I have been to Hammerhead and indeed the first time I have run a participation game and I have to say it was a strange experience. Not totally knowing what to expect, I think we thought that no one would want to play, but a couple did actually which surprised me and they seemed to enjoy it as they spent the whole day we us.

My first impressions of the show was that the place was big and reminded me of Derby and salute in a way but on a smaller scale. But the actually place was nice and light and airy, which meant that you could take photos without flashes or long exposure times, which was great. There was a lot of games and all where to a high standard and lots of people milling around. There were the usually traders and they seemed to be doing way, though I only got some stuff for WarBases and that was all, unlike me. The one thing that did stick out was the number of kids and also families. That was very nice to see.

The atmosphere throughout the whole day was very nice and friendly, and it was nice to see a number of my friends, Loki, Kev and Tricks to name a few and very nice to meet some new ones too from the Very British Civil Forum, Ironbelly, Boldie, Silver Fox and the Bishop of Grantham.

The game itself went well. It started off with the various factions fighting the Royalist/BUF forces but a strange this happened and once the Saxon hordes started attacking them they all forgot about there missions and start fighting the Saxons for survival. But by the end of the day the socialists had made its way to the Longship and manners to grab a box, a special box that contained an artefact of great power.

All in all it was a jolly good day and I hope that everyone enjoyed themselves. Though we only had two people join in the game and they stayed all day, we had a lot of people that showed interest and enjoyed what we were doing, which is a good result. As for the venue, if Partizan has to move from Kelham Hall, which I really hope not, but if they do, this venue is a good alternative though I wish the cafe had stayed open longer, they had gone by three. I will leave you with some more pictures.
