Its been a while and Cheap Trees

Hi there chaps and chapesses

It has been a while since I have posted or it seems a while and I am finding the motivation to do the blog, post in forums, etc a little hard. This is not because of any lack of mojo on my behalf its more a matter of time. Recently, as some of you will know, I have been very busy with my "real" job and have been trying for a promotion to an Executive Officer, team leader to you and me, and I got it and I am trying to find that balance at the moment.

Any enough of that and on to what this is all about. I have ordered some trees from an ebay shop after seeing them at Partizan when a freind of mine, Tym, brought them down and I have to say I am impressed with them. The trees are quite serviceable as is but I have added a little finishing touches to them and I think it has totally changed them for the better.

I brought four difference tree packs ranging from the 5x 15cm Model Mulberry Trees for Architecture Train Railway Wargame Park Scenery, got to love the name, thats those above, to 10x 11cm Model Trees for Architecture Train Railway Wargame Diorama Scene Layout, to 5x 16cm Green Model Trees for Architecture Train Railway Wargame Layout Scenery to 3x Green Elm Tree Model 4.72" fit Railways Building Park Scenery Layout 1:75.

I have to firstly say for the price, 23 trees for 11 quid including postage from China, is amazing. The actual trees are for the most part made plastic with a sort of clump foliage for the leafs, well the 15cm Mulberry trees and the 16cm Green  Model Trees with the 11cm Model trees also being plastic with a strange plastic leaf clump thing, which works rather well to the Green Elm trees which is a wire frame with a netting of fine clump foliage added.

All I did to change them as they are a little bright and plastic for my liking is to apply a browny/black wash to the whole tree, truck and leaves alike and set it to dry. I would advise sprayed the trees with cheap hair spray or varnish before hand as little clumps do fall off,

Then I simple dry brushed the truck and branches with a couple of shades of light brown, I think I used a brown flesh and a tan colour, and then a couple of shades of lighter green, a light olive and a yellow green to bring out the leaves.

The bases dont come with any form of bases and have a simple rounded bottom to them. All I did was to cut the bottom off the rounded base and drilled a hole into the truck and attached a pin or wire to the base with hot glue and hot glued the tree to the base using the pin. Sanded and flocked as normal after.

The last ones I am going to talk about it the wire Green Elm Tree as they are a little different to the other trees I have got. The first difference is the truck and branches is made wire, which means they can be bent is any position you like. I have to say for Elms they really dont look like them but there are very nice trees giving that different look. As they have a wire truck fixing them to bases is a little easier by simple hammering the blunt end some it fans out a little and hot glueing it a the base.

All in all I have to say that they are a good buy especially for the price but if you will put a little work into them to make they will look stunning and a fine addition to any battlefield. I am now off to give some more.
